Happy New Year's Eve

I started my day way too early and way too cold for SC.

I almost went back to bed, I'm not gonna lie. I dragged on my cold weather gear, sucked it up, and went. When we got to Fleet Feet it was pretty empty at first, but the regulars showed up!

I was going to run, but my favorite group of walkers were there, so I joined them instead. I will run the trail tomorrow anyway!
2.7 hilly miles to start the day!

Did you run or walk this morning?

Flat Mama Friday, New Year's Edition

Holy heck, it has gotten really cold in the south! I have two events planned for the weekend and I had to break out my cold weather gear for them both.

On New Year's Eve I am doing a group run with the peeps at Fleet Feet in Fort Mill. I will probably run 2 or 3 miles, nothing crazy, and will probably go with the outfit on the right.
On New Year's Day I am running the Trail Gnome Run. I'm not gonna lie, I am dragging my potentially hung over butt out of bed on New Year's Morning because there is a gnome on the shirt. I'm hoping it will keep me from overdoing it at our friend's New Year's Eve party. It's a trail run and I hear that it's a hot mess so I will wear my beat up New Balance shoes that I save for trail hikes in our neighborhood.
Wish me luck!
Are you running this weekend?

Thursday Training Update

The countdown to Disney is winding down!  Morgan and I are driving down on Tuesday (I love that I live closer to Disney than NJ now!) and the marathon is a week from Sunday!
I have been tapering like a boss, maybe not in a good way, but let's be honest. There's nothing I can do now, and NYC was my race of the year, this is for fun. Yes, people. I marathon for fun.

Let's get down to business.

Thursday was all about squats. I've been doing a squat challenge and I needed to catch up. I did about 250. Ouch.

Friday I finally got out there to do my Virtual Run for Rock n Roll. It was my best run since June and it felt amazing from start to finish!

Saturday, Christmas Eve, I went to a group run at Fleet Feet in Fort Mill. My favorite ladies were speed walking so I joined them. We did a little over 2 miles and then the hubs and I ran errands and walked the dogs.

Sunday was Christmas Day. We had company for dinner a day then we went to a birthday party at our neighbor's house. I got my steps in but that's about it.

Monday I went on a trail hike. It looked like rain the whole time but it was so warm out!

Tuesday I had a migraine from all the crazy weather but I squeezed out some Core de Force and my steps.

Wednesday I realized that it was the only day to take down the Christmas decorations with our travel next week, and Morgan coming home, so I spent 2 hours up and down stairs, ladders, and benches, carrying boxes. I decided this was enough, especially since I still.cant shaken the migraine. We had a thunderstorm early this morning so I'm hoping that helps!

Marathon Training Recovery with EpSoak Epsom Salts #BibRave

Disclaimer: I received a bottle of EpSoak Pro Bath Salts as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (Ambassador) and check out BibRave.com to wrire, review, and find race reviews.

I feel like I have been marathon training forever. With NYC ending and still keeping up my mileage for WDW on January 8th, my body is tired. Add in some Christmas merriment, house cleaning, and cross training, and I seem to have aches and pains everywhere.
I haven't had a bath tub in probably about 15 years, so I have been making good use of the garden tub in the master bathroom since we moved in on Super Bowl Sunday. It is enormous y'all and I am in total love. The hubs even installed a chandelier above it because I saw one in a magazine. Once I had said tub, I started stocking up on bubble bath, bath bombs, and.... most importantly... bath salts. I couldn't raise my hand fast enough when we were offered a chance to try out EpSoak Pro Epsom Salts.

Funny story, and I hope my fellow Pros don't get too mad at me for sharing.... don't worry, I won't name any names.
When the Pros started receiving the salts, I hadn't opened mine yet. There was lots of chatter about some having trouble getting the jar open. I was reading all of the comments and laughing at all of the funny pics and videos being shared. I finally decided to see what the fuss was all about, and mine opened right up. Ha! I felt so strong! Next, they started talking about finding the scoop inside. You know how it goes, the scoop always seems to sink down during shipping. I think I'm so smart, and I get a wooden spoon out, and start digging for my scoop. karma kicked me right in the butt for laughing when my jar opened so easily. I sent salts everywhere. Seriously. Everywhere.
I got a slotted spoon, took my jar upstairs, sat in my empty tub, and dug it out safely.
For real, people. This is my life.
OK, so let's get serious here. EpSoak Pro comes in a few varieties. I was sent the soothing salts, which was just fine with me. When I opened the jar, the lavender smell was very strong. Have no fear, it is just right in the tub. My bathroom smelled amazing for a couple hours afterward as well! I was so relaxed, I couldn't wait to use it again!
The directions on the jar suggest 2 to 4 scoops. I went with 4 so that I could have maximum soothness. That's totally a word, even though its underlined in red squigglies by my spell check. Squigglies may also be underlined. Whatever.
There is also an Energizing variety with eucalyptus and peppermint,  and an unscented one for sensitive skin that still provides all of the benefits of Epsom Salts.

After my bath, I noticed no residue in the tub, which I loved, because that is not the case with some bath salts and bombs that I have purchased in the past. The smell was soothing but not overpowering, and I felt relaxed and my muscles were definitely less sore.
Intrigued yet?  The San Francisco Salt Company is having a sale right now! The 8.5 pound canister is $3 off and the 5 pound bag is $1 off. If you buy three of the 8.5 pound canisters, you save between $9 and $12, depending on your choice, and if you try the variety pack, with one of each, you save $11.

If you use the code RAVE10 you will receive 10% off of any 5 pound bag. I'm not sure of an expiration on the code, but I will update when I do know.

Have you used Epsom Salts for recovery?

Thursday Training Update ... Taper Edition

I have seriously been taking this tapering thing seriously. Prepare to be unimpressed.
No, really.
Thursday.... ummmm nothing. I got my steps in front of the TV pretty much all week.
Friday.... more nothing. Sensing a trend?I've been so tired from this cold that I've been using it as an excuse.
Saturday.... squats that I wasn't doing all week and a 2 mile dog walk.
Sunday... finally! It was finally not freezing outside so I took advantage and did the RnR Virtual 5k!

Monday and Tuesday, more squats and more steps in front of the TV.

Wednesday I did PiYo lower body and a ton of squats.

Super impressed, right? I told you so! I am really struggling, and I think it's a combo of post NYC depression and Holiday Blues. I am glad that Disney is coming up, although that's gonna be a train wreck, and that I joined some challenges to get me remotivated!

Have you ever had the workout blues? What did you do to overcome them?

Training Plan for the Maine Coast Marathon Half #bibravepro

Disclaimer.... I received free entry into the Maine Coast Marathon Half Marathon as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador) and check out www.BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews.

I am obsessed with Maine. We went to Maine quite a few times when I was a kid, always camping, and when my kids were old enough we went back with them. Of course, the hubs doesn't camp, but we still had fun.
A couple of years ago, I did a half marathon in Portland. The hubs came with me and we had a great time! Ever since, we have talked about going back, so when my peeps at BibRave asked if anyone wanted to run the race I jumped right on board.
Well, first I confirmed that I could run the half instead of the full.
Then I jumped right on board.

Let's be real, who wouldn't want to run here? Last night, while I was stalking the Cowboys game (Go Giants!) I wrote up my plan of attack. I might still tweak it some, but I have a few weeks before I have to worry about that!

I have to admit, I am way less scared of running in Maine this time around. I was living at the very flat Jersey Shore last time and those hills killed me. The views were amazing. But the hills! Oh my heck!
This time I will be way more prepared. South Carolina is super hilly, so every time I run am hill training.
I did look up the elevation chart. A girl should always be prepared.

Whew! I run bigger hills here! And look at all that water I will be running past! The views are going to be amazing! Now I have to decide whether I run for time or just take a ton of pics and have fun on the course!

What would you do?

Earth's Care Pain Relieving Ointment: A Marathoner's Best Friend

I received this glorious tub of Earth's care Pain Relieving Ointment to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (Ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews.

If you have been reading my blog for any amount of time, you know that I am constantly training for some race or another. I have had quite a few aches and pains during training for the NYC Marathon, so when BibRave asked me if I would like to try some pain relieving ointment, I was totally on board!
Earth's Care Pain Relieving Ointment has a very pleasant wintergreen type smell to it, and it isn't greasy when you rub it in, which is a total win for me. I also have sensitive skin and this does not make me itch or scratch when I use it which is huge! This really was good timing for me, as I am adding to my race schedule daily, and I am going to start training for the Chicago Marathon in June. It is so important to have good products to back up your training. It is often the difference between running a good race and just running a race, know what I mean? I look back on past races, and training, and know that things could have been so much more enjoyable if I had known then what I know now.

what a great stocking stuffer this would be!

Let me give you the stats, so you know what the company is all about! Earth's Care Pain Relieving Ointment is great for minor aches and pains. I have even used it on my lower back after yoga and it is awesome! They don't use parabens, petrolatum, artificial colors or fragrances (thank you!), or phthalates, and they don't test on animals.
From the website:

Active ingredients Purpose
Camphor 4% Topical analgesic
Menthol 10% Topical analgesic
Methyl Salicylate (Wintergreen Oil) 15% Topical analgesic
Other ingredients: beeswax, Butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, Prunus amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond) oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) extract, tocopherols (vitamin E)

I love this! The company also sells essential oils, arthritis cream, muscle & joint rub, and skin care items. They are giving free shipping with orders over $25 right now, and if you join their mailing list they will give you 20% off of your next order. I have the utmost respect for companies who put the consumer first during the holidays.

BibRave and Earth's Care will be hosting a #bibchat on Tuesday night! Stalk my Twitter account for the time, I will be posting about it all day on Tuesday, December 20. BibChats take about an hour, they are so much fun, and when it is over, two lucky participants win prizes! You do not want to miss this chat, especially if you are training for any races in 2017.  Plus, you always learn about new tips and tricks from the other chatters. It really is a win win.

Will I "see" you at Tuesday night's #bibchat?

Thursday Training Update

I swear, winter and I do not get along no matter where I live! I cannot shake this cold. but I'm doing my best to get workouts in.

Thursday, I ran one whopping mile before I realized it was too cold and damp to run when I feel gross. No pics because.... gross.

I pretty much sat on the couch on Friday, hoping to feel better for the weekend.

Saturday was our development's Christmas Parade.....

Sunday I did my long run with some friends. It was so freezing cold that my shins wouldn't warm up and we ended up speed walking most of it! 11.5 miles down though, and we saw a ton of deer!

Monday I still felt like crap so I got my steps in front of the TV and did a ton of squats.

Tuesday it was raining so I got my miles done inside. ink own this seems wimpy but I'm sick and the Disney Marathon is looming...

Wednesday was yoga day....

So far I am mostly on track for my December Goals. I say mostly because I am still not planking every day.

How are you doing with your December goals?

Thursday Training Update

I'm finally getting into some what of a workout groove. It's been super rainy here, and I'm either suffering allergies or catching a cold, so I did set some limits, but I'm confident in my ability to finish the Disney Marathon without falling over first!

Thursday I did a 7 mile training run, and I can't remember if I mentioned it in my last update. It was a great run, and I felt good when I finished it, which is always important. Coming back from recovery is hard, especially with a marathon looming! We plan to walk parts of it, but still, I need to get my mileage back up before race days

Friday was a recovery day.

Saturday was the Reindeer Romp 5k and I also hiked with the boys...

Sunday was another rest day. That 2 mile hike did me in. Our trails are hilly, y'all.

Monday was when I started feeling the cold or allergies coming on. It was super rainy all week, and I felt yucky all week. I still feel yucky. Stupid weather.

Wednesday I finally got out there and ran some miles. My shin was tight but I planned easy miles so it worked out, and by Mile 3 I was good to go. I was also pretty much done, but whatever.

Not a great week, but not the worst either. Today I officially registered for my first Ragnar and Morgan is going to do it as well! I'm so excited! My friend Susie will also be there! What a fun and exhausting 48 hours or so it will be!

Have you ever done Ragnar, or something similar?
