Thursday Training Update

I missed last week's training update, although there wasn't a lot or training going on! My daughter was home for Spring Break, and I was trying to maximize every minute!
Let's go back two weeks, shall we?
Thursday, March 17, we went for a really long trail walk. It took forever, it was hot and Morgan was cranky. I didn't save the pictures that far back, so you'll have to trust me on this week's workouts.
Friday, we went bowling again, this time with the hubs, and I won both games. Score!  We also went for a walk.
Saturday, another walk. Sensing a trend? Yeah, me too.
Sunday, nada, zero, zip. Rest day!
Monday, I was determined to get back at it. I unpacked for a little while, did a 9 minute mission, 32 minutes on the elliptical, and a 40 minute walk. Go me!
Tuesday, more unpacking. The garage was a hot mess, but it's almost to the point where I might let people see it! We also we went for a walk.
Wednesday, more unpacking. The garage now looks almost normal. We need some shelving, but it's getting there. Also, a walk.
Thursday, we got the new bookshelves for the library. This meant lots of cleaning, moving, and unpacking. Two hours worth, and soooo happy with the outcome.

Friday and Saturday, more unpacking and more walking. Even I'm bored right now.
Sunday, I got off my lazy butt. I posted to my development's  Facebook page asking for running partners,  and I scored big. I also took a 90 minute bike ride with the hubs. It was super hilly, but we had a great time. We also took a walk that night.

Monday was my first running date. I started the day with two rounds of PiYo in our garage gym, my first workout there! Then I met Heather at our clubhouse and we banged out 3.3 hilly miles. It was nice to have a running buddy again!

Tuesday, I met with another friend to run at Anne Springs Close Greenway, a park that's one town over. It's a trail, and it was hilly, but we chose the shortest one and sort of did a run/walk/shuffle. The first mile was dark, but partway through Mile 2, we no longer needed a flashlight and could run a little easier.
Wednesday was a rest day, so I walked the dog and did some errands to get my steps in.
I will be traveling to Philadelphia tomorrow for the Hot Chocolate 15k, so be on the lookout for some pictures!

It's Shower Pill Weather in SC

It's getting warmer and warmer here in SC and this Jersey girl is a sweaty mess. So thankful for Shower Pill!
I'm putting together a running bag for all of the running groups I will be attending, and that is the first thing I threw in there!

I'm Running the NYC Marathon with MDA Team Momentum

Have i mentioned yet that I am running the NYC Marathon with Team Momentum?
I got in via lottery, so it is not that kind of fundraising, proof that it means a lot to me. My father has been fighting a form of Muscular Dystrophy for years now, called Myesthenia Gravis. It makes his life pretty difficult at times, and the treatments are no joke.
So far I have raised almost $300, with a minimum goal of $1000 and a dream goal of $3000.
I will be doing a fundraiser every month, starting with Jamberry in April. I will post about each fundraiser at the beginning of the month, just in case one tickles your fancy.
If you'd like to make a straight donation, though, I won't say no! You can check out my Fundraising Page here.
My dad just got home from another trip to the hospital, and my goal was to hit $350 by the end of the week. (That's tonight!) I still have $73 to go!
Let's talk more about this on April 1st....or maybe 3rd....since I will be traveling to Philly and might forget!

No Flat Mama Friday Today!

I am not racing this weekend, for a change. It feels strange, but I have a breakfast date with some high school friends who moved to NC before I did, and we will hang pictures and organize the garage this weekend.
But for now, we are sporting these awesome pieces of footwear, and will play bunco tonight!

Thursday Training Update

The Teenie is home from college for Spring Break, and I almost forgot to post today! Not that my workouts are super impressive this last few days, I have been spending a lot of time with her, and not so much time working out!

It started with a run that was more like a hike. I did find a cool rope bridge, though, so maybe it was worth it. My pace was crap, but I covered the miles and that's all that matters right now!

Saturday was the Shamrock 4 Miler, which I ran with friends. Also a slower pace, but super hilly and I went in with the goal of having fun. Mission accomplished.
Plus, I looked awesome!

Sunday, the men and I took the dogs on a walk to find the bridge I had found on Thursday. It's about 2 miles round trip, but hilly and exhausting. Plus, we got to cross over to NC on the bridge, which was a silly little thrill.

Monday afternoon, the Teenie came home. I knew I had to get my workout in before that happened, but it was humid out. It was also pi day, and you have to run 3.14 on pi day! I can't run on a treadmill so I decided to hit the elliptical for the same amount of time it would take to run the distance.

Tuesday, we didn't do much, although we did walk the dogs again.
Wednesday I wasn't feeling my best, but I promised the Teenie we would do something, although everything seemed to be closed on Wednesday. We found a bowing alley, and bowled two games, and then walked the mall it was attached to. Fun, and we found a great place to hang out with the family this summer!
The Teenie and I rode our bikes one day as well, and it was about 5 Miles worth. I just can't remember when! We found that bridge and even crossed over to the NC side and found a covered bridge as well.
Not the greatest week, but I tried to keep moving every day. This week I am hoping to start Carb Cycling with Chris Powell's plan. I am.mostly done with the book, and I want to be sure I have all the information before I jump in.
Have you tried Carb Cycling?

Rock n Roll Half Marathons

I have been planning my travel for Spring races this week, and it got me thinking about my past experience with the Rock n Roll Race Series.
I've always been a huge fan of the series, and I've never been shy about it. They treat you like royalty! The course support is amazing, the spectators are encouraging, and the music is always eclectic and fun. I just can't get enough.
Now that I am a #RocknBlog ambassador, I don't have to. I will be running quite a few events this year, and since we moved south, I will be adding some new ones to my list.
I'm going to leave you with some pics of past races, a discount code, and a peek at one of the bonus medals for running the 5k and half in one city....

Shamrock 4 Miler Recap

Today was the Shamrock 4 Miler in Charlotte, and the first in a series of races I registered for while I was still in NJ. My first race after I moved here was a sad, lonely affair. This race was the exact opposite.
I arrived about an hour early so that I could get my bib and tee, and pee before the start of the race with no rush or worry.

I found my friend Nicki right away, and she introduced me to Robert,  and then I ran into Iris, a fellow Skirt Sports Ambassador.

We were joined by Nicki's friend Kristen, and we waited for the race to start, talking about running Disney and strategy for the race. Nicki was doing a 30:30 run walk, so I decided to join her. It made the hot, hilly race go by very quickly! Before we knew it, we were approaching the finish. That was the fastest slow 4 miles ever!
They had tons of course support, the roads were safely blocked off, and it was such fun! At the finish we were given a medal, water, and tons of food. All we missed out on was a cloth bag. As we left the finish, I heard someone call my name. That shouldn't happen here, I barely know anyone. Sure enough enough, it was the ladies from MRTT Rock Hill! Love it!

What a great race! At the finish area, they had a large amount of tents set up. One had the Easter Bunny and donuts, one selling gear, one with fresh breads, Chik-Fila, a barbecue place, and a couple more I can't remember. At the sponsor tent, they had pics of the blind for the series. Once you have them all, it spells their name. So fun!

A fun day filled with new running friends, just what I needed after a less than perfect week!
Have you ever had to start over in a.whole new town, in a whole new state?

Flat Mama Friday

Tomorrow morning I am running the Shamrock 4 Miler in Charlotte and I've already set the alarm!

Thursday Training Update

Try not to be too shocked, but my workouts are still not regular. This moving thing had really messed with my flow! Add to that, the fact that allergy season starts in March in South Carolina, and I'm a hot mess.
Thursday and Friday I was unpacking. This may not sound like much, but it involves a lot of running up and down the stairs with boxes in my hands. Heavy boxes. These days, my legs are in a perpetual state of Ouch. We did not have stairs in NJ.
Saturday was supposed to be my 41st half marathon, and my first glimpse at Charlotte. I forgot to set the alarm and I overslept. This has never ever happened to me before! Mortified.
Instead, we went into Charlotte, found a Little Free Library, and cheered for the runners who were still out there. Oh. And we had hot dogs.

On Sunday, we walked the dogs, and discovered you can walk to NC without leaving the development. It was a very hilly 4 Mile walk. We also worked on the garage, which meant more time bringing boxes up and down the stairs.

Monday I stepped on the scale, had a mini coronary, and realized I needed to stop pigging out and start working out. The boxes in the garage can wait. I added workouts to my planner, and got started right away. PiYo, Hammer & Chisel, a 3 mile bike ride to show the boy how to get to NC, and a walk with the hubs. WHEW!

Tuesday was a running day. My self defense teacher says we shouldn't be predictable. Especially when we run alone. A new route was in order, so I just ran haphazardly around the development. No big deal, but I seemed to pick roads with hills. Yikes! After my run I basically wasted the rest of the day stalking my Facebook feed to see who got into NYC. It's how I roll.

Wednesday is Self Defense class, so I haven't been scheduling workouts for that day, just in case the class is a workout. It wasn't really, though. We learned about mentality and about kubatons, which is my new favorite word. Look them up. Totally badass. I ordered one. Next week we learn about how to use them properly. I came home feeling out of sorts because I got pulled over on my way to class. I decided I was going to wallow all day. Mature, right? I was saved by the mail. First, I opened a surprise gift from my girls at Zooma. Then I opened my box from Beachbody. Of course, I had to try the new workouts. Duh. There was also some walking involved, to round out the day.
How have your workouts been this week?
