Join Me at the Trenton Half this November!

Last November, I ran the Inaugural Trenton Half. Well, I ran the 10K, actually, but regretted not running the Half! This year, I am running the Half! It is a beautiful course, it runs through 2 states and over 2 bridges! I loved every minute of that 10K!
The race also has Live On Course Entertainment! I loved the DJ they had last year, and I rocked it out with the ladies from Black Girls Run while we waited to start! SO fun!
The finisher medal is *amazing*. Last year's medal was HEAVY! This year it will be 4" around and is sporting some color! It really is fabulous!
No tee shirt at this race, you get a long sleeved, tech pullover! I have worn last year's repeatedly! It was so cold last year, I actually broke my rule and wore it under my half Fanatic shirt for the race! I never do that, but a girl has to stay warm!

There is a post race party with a band! You gotta love that!
The best part? You finish in a baseball stadium! last year was amazing, you enter at around the first base line and run around the field and finish at Home Plate! Woot! Everyone is cheering, it is magical! There really is nothing like a stadium finish!
The people at the Trenton Half have made this wonderful coupon code just for my readers!

I hope to see you at the race! When you register, please put my name, Kim Prytherch, under "who referred you" so they know I sent you! (In case the code isn't a clue!) Be sure to let me know if you will be there, so we can take a group photo of all my Barking Mad friends!

**I apologize for the double post today, I meant to schedule this for tomorrow!**
***As an Ambassador, I am receiving free registration to the race, after volunteering at the Atlantic City Expo. As always, all opinions are my own!***

Have you ever run a race that crossed between states?

Wordless Wednesday, July Edition

sorry it is blurry, July's Runs and workouts. My goal was 40 miles but I passed 55! Woot!

The Color Run

How would you like to join me at the Happiest 5K on the Planet? I will be running in Allentown, PA in October and would love to see you there! If not, how about running....anywhere in the US? With the coupon code above, you can get $5 off registration AND if you register as a team of 4 or more, you can save $5 more per person! Be sure to sign up fast, however. The Color Run sells out quickly, especially in major cities! You definitely do not want to miss out on this amazing experience!
Never heard of the Color Run? Curious what it is all about?
The Color Run is a very colorful 5K, less about finishing super fast and more about finishing super colorful! This race is perfect for those of you who want to try out a 5K, but do not want to worry about your finishing time! In fact, there is no timer! Just a lot of people having an amazing time!
At each Kilometer there is a new color. Trained volunteers are there to get you colored up, and they mean business!  Be sure to wear as much white as possible, so that you can see how colorful you can get by the end! Oh, and at the end? A huge Color War, where everyone throws around their own packet of color, given to you at the beginning of the race! Still worried about all that color? Don't! It is just cornstarch with a little dye added to it! Harmless!

Still not sure? Check out this video:

Now that I *know* you are all convinced, I will tell you what my team name will be for Allentown! The hubs and I will be Barking Mad About Color. Catchy, right? The official location is called Lehigh Valley, PA.

Dopey Training, Week 4

Wow! I am so tired and sore from yesterday's 4H Mud Run! No official pics yet, but my official time was 1:23. I was pretty proud of it until I saw that the winners finished between 35 and 40 minutes or so. No lie. Scary stuff!
I finished week 4 of Dopey Training! Woot! It is still easy, since there are no back to back runs yet. They don't start up until week 12! I will party like a rock star until then, since I am pretty sure those back to back runs will kill me!
Monday: 8.5 mile bike ride, and a plank
Tuesday: I started my day with Zombie sprints. No, really. I used the Zombies, Run! app. When those zombies come at you, you sprint! I never took a pic though, we were bringing the teenie to the city, and I was distracted. She has been gone for 6 days, and still has 4 to go! We walked all around Fordham, and after we got home, we did a short training ride. I also planked. I plank every day, I might forget to put it in, but it got done ;)

Wednesday: Run Like a Girl, at Road Runner Sports. I did a 3.5 mile fun run, and got a free Brooks hand towel. Woot! I also bought the top of my Princess Leia costume for Disney's Dopey Challenge! I also started Slim in 6. I hope to do it 5-6 times a week, but time will tell! If I get it in there 3 days a week I will be thrilled! It is tough, too! My muscles were achey after day 1! Planked!!!

Thursday: I plankled. That is all. Sad, but true! Every once in awhile, a body needs to rest! I ran a lot of errands and the boy and I did puzzles!
Friday: 5 mile run at the boardwalk. The ocean was closed to swimmers so it was more like dodge ball. My pace was great, considering! We also walked the dogs. Oh, and I planked!

Saturday: 4H Mud Run. This one kicked my butt, as I mentioned already. Planked, too!
Sunday: we walked the dogs, but that might be it. I am thinking we might go for a ride later, but not sure. I will plank, too ;) The bird eggs we found in our yard upon our return. They were empty, hooray! No dead baby birds in my yard! woohoo!!

Not a bad week, all together! 3 Runs, one mud run, one Slim in 6. Since I started my week on Wednesday with that, I still have time to get 2 more in!

Have you found anything interesting on a run or walk lately?

4H Mud Run

Today I did a 4H Mud Run in Mullica Hill, NJ. It was being held at their local county fair. I got the entry for free through Active Advantage, and, to be honest, I wasn't expecting much! I now humbly apologize to the people at Mean Guy Running!
I arrived about an hour early for packet pickup, and got through the process quickly. Bib, pins, shoe tag for chip timing. No bag check, though, which really upset me for about 2 minutes. I went alone, and luckily I had brought a running belt and a ziplock bag to hold my WW Active Link. I threw my key in there as well, and left everything else in the car.
The waiting area for your wave was a lovely roofed picnic area with fans to keep you cool. I only had to wait about 15 minutes, and kept myself entertained by watching the Mechanical Bull riders. Very amusing!
When our wave time approached, we all lined up and had to take an oath. Part of it was to not cry. I laughed at how many didn't repeat that part! It was a 5K course, and these pics are all from the facebook page!
We ran down a dirt road and into the woods, to the first obstacle. It was a military crawl. Through coffee grounds. No. Really. Coffee grounds. It was surprisingly difficult! There were elastic ropes across the area and logs in the way, to keep you flat and moving. It.was.nuts.
Off through the twisty, gnarly woods. To the monkey bars. I have no upper body strength. This would be no big deal, if not for the layers of old rotting sweet peppers all over the ground underneath. Again, not kidding:

Yuck. My shoes were wet after this, and the smell was not bad, but....odd.
Back into the woods, and then out again. We ran past the horse show and up a hill to the next obstacle. This was a wall about 6 feet high, almost like a raised ramp. They had a rope to help you but you didn't really need it. You ran up and then climbed down the other side. Easy peasy. More running, with piles of hay bales to climb over. Fun!
More running, and into the swampy area. Yum! First were the balance logs, and each one was lower in the water, until finally, you were watching each step, because the log was under water! After that were the little ponds you had to wade through! The water was dyed yellow, there were tadpoles, and dragonflies, and butterflies. I worried about the tadpoles, and hoped the dye was not toxic!

My legs were tired after this, so I walk/jogged to the next obstacle.
Noooooo problem. Except they led you to the first big wall! It was about 10 feet high, with some cheater bars, but they were too far apart for my stumpy legs. A nice guy helped me up, and there was a rope on the other side to slide down into some more yellow water! You waded through this. ducking under tubes, while the firemen sprayed you with cold water. It hurt. It also felt amazing. It wasn't super hot, but the exertion definitely heated you up!
More running! This is where I am unsure of the exact order of the obstacles, so I will do my best! You cross the entry road for the fair and into the Conservation Area. Hmmmm.....
First, you climb over a hill of more coffee grounds! yum! Ahead of us was a pit of yellow water with ropes to swing across. It looked sooooo high. Once I stepped down it was easier and I swung across.
We also had to run through some lovely, warm, fermented peaches. They smelled good for about 30 seconds, and then they were nauseating. And all over my shoes!
Next was a pit of muddy, gooey water. You could swing across using rings. Totally scary. Remember, no upper body strength, and my tall wall savior didn't make it over. I grabbed the first ring, swung out, swung back, swung out. Dropped. Gooey!
More running! Zig zagging through a field. Running through the woods over gnarly, hilly ground. I felt like I had been doing it forever and wondered if it was mile 2 approaching. Not so much. A woman told us we were halfway done. Yayyyyy.........
I could hear a DJ though, and he was telling people they were almost done. Confused!
I came out of the woods and saw....

I was actually behind those people in yellow. I must not have entered the frame yet! The DJ at the top had a great vantage point of those coming....and those going. He was cheering for people who had already done the whole area and were on their way back. That was soooo not me yet!
Up the slidey, crazy, dirt mountain. I used footholds from previous runners and at the top was fabulous, wonderful, refreshing, cold water. It was magnificent. Down the mountain, through a corn field, and up a hill to another wall.
This one was about 8 feet high with no cheater boards. So i used a cheater volunteer, who vaulted me up so I could drop down into.....coffee grounds. They were surprisingly soft!
Down the hill, back up, back down. SO tired. The next hill we were given a tire to carry. Yayyyy.......
Around a bend, and a lovely mud pit! If you crawled through, you didn't sink. So I crawled. Back up another mountain. Really? Did I mention I was tired?
There were 3 women working together, and I caught up to them here. We entered the woods to the sound of the DJ *finally* cheering for us!
Through the woods, and into the parking lot. OMG I recognize this! We.are.almost.done.
We had to vault over 3 really high, wide hay bales. Around a corner and the final obstacle.
On the other side was a slide, into muddy water. I really wanted to slide down that slide.
However
All of the super sporty people who were ahead of me? They were all there. Because the first 86 times they tried, they slid back down. After watching for 10 minutes, I walked around.  I'm not proud. I will shout it out loud. I skipped it!
Ran up the hill to the finish!
So many people skipped the walls, etc so there was no guilt there! It was the only obstacle I didn't do. I was beat!
I hosed off, got my tee, donated my nasty muddy Brooks, and headed home!
I was happy with my race, and am awaiting my final chip time, which was about 90 minutes. It was, by far, the hardest mud run I have done! The ground was uneven the whole time, the obstacles were totally crazy. and I loved that it wasn't all mud! I will post event pics if they become available!
starting at top left: coffee hill, my socks after I hosed them off, my bib, tee and Kind bar, tractor for Bryce to see, final obstacle, and my boy Bryce's sign :) I run 4 him!
What did you do this weekend to keep your body moving?

Fabulous Friday with Color Me Rad!

I am so excited to announce that I will be a Color Me Rad Ambassador this Fall!

I will be attending the Baltimore Event on September 8th, and my team name is Barking Rad (in case you want to join me!)
Have you ever done an event like this? They are SO much fun! Last summer, I did a similar event twice, once with the teenie and once with the boy. We had a lot of fun, so I am super excited to do it again this year, with a different company!
What is Color Me Rad?
The best 5K race you will ever encounter! At each K, you are bombarded with color, thrown at you by volunteers who are trained for just such an event, one color per Kilometer. When you are done, you are a rainbow of color!
You also receive one packet of color of your own, to be used at the finish line. The dye is colored corn starch, so it is harmless. There really is nothing like it!
Check out all of the colorful wonder:
on Facebook
on Twitter
on Pinterest
on Instagram
and
on youtube!

But beware, if you check out all of those sites, you are going to want to participate! The fun is infectious, the runners are all so happy and. It really is all sunshine and rainbows!

Dopey Training, Week 3 and Dermagist Giveaway Winner

I completed week 3 of Dopey Training this week! Holy heck!
I did not do much else, though, because my hand was very very sore from an injury sustained at Rugged Maniac. I cut my palm open on one of the barricade walls. I admit, it makes me feel pretty badass to say that! It is all healed now, so I will be back at it today!
First, here are some official RM pics:
one of my friend's laughed because I am the only happy one in this pic!

finishing with Melanie

fire leap! My favorite part!

Monday: a plank. On my knuckles. No lie, I am a straight arm planker, and I couldn't put my hand down flat. Owie!
Tuesday: 3 mile run and a plank, this time on our bed, for some extra padding. Sad but true. It was super hot, we had a week long hot spell, up to 100 before noon every day, which we are SO not used to here in NJ! It is finally cooling down a little starting yesterday!
Wednesday: Lavalette BP 5K, evening race, with my friend Cheryl. It was in the 90s and the breeze off the Ocean did help a little, but not alot. We took it a little easy. and I finished in about 34 minutes. We each placed 3rd in our age groups! Woot! There were no age group prizes though! Darn! I also planked. On the bed again. Sad. I really rocked the Swirlgear though. I love my top! (961 at checkout=free shipping!)
Thursday: Yoga with Bob Harper. My hand was finally feeling better, but after yoga and all the planks, it was sore again lol. Worth it though, this is tough yoga, and I was a sweaty mess afterwards! In the pic is some yummy wild raspberries our neighbor picked for us. The teenie and her friend ate them all! Bad teenie!
Friday: weigh in! I am down 1.8 more for a total of 6.2 in 3 weeks! Woot! I also geocached with the teenie. It was super hot and we regretted it. A little. Oh, and a plank. On the bed again. Only because I forgot though! Over 100 days planking! Woot! I also did my Flat Mama for the Undy Run.

Saturday: Undy Run 5K with some of my MRTT friends. It was a little cooler, in the 80s, so it wasn't terrible. I am still waiting for the results (2 days! I am dying here!) but my time was about 31:46. I am kind of surprised about the results not being posted. I guess I am spoiled by our local races. The results are up for those within hours, sometimes by the time I get home! Anyway, it was a great time!
The 4 ladies are me with my MRTT girls, the 6 are MRTT plus 2 extra friends from my running club.
Sunday: cooling off now! The hubs came on part of my training ride, then I played with the Wii Fit for a half hour, took the dogs for a walk, and at night we went on a beach walk. Whew! Oh, and a plank!

Not too bad, for a week with an injury!
I look forward to week 4 of Dopey Training! I have a mud run on Saturday again, but I think this will be a little more low key. I guess we will see!
OH
and the winner of the Dermagist Giveaway, who has already been notified, is
Donna Raye!

Congrats Donna!
Next week, I am going to a Pampered Chef party, and I think I will be picking up a few things to giveaway as part of my facebook page's 1000th like! I am soooooo close, so if you are not already a fan, please consider going over to my Barking Mad Facebook page and showing a little love! I know I will get there soon, and then I can give away some Pampered Chef favorites!
