Flat Mama Thursday

Doesn't quite roll off the tongue, does it?
I leave today for the Get Outside Mountain Relay in Glade Valley, NC. It starts tomorrow which is why I’m posting today! I have everything packed and ready to go, including outfits for all three legs plus camp life in between. (Pajamas. I’m wearing pajamas in between legs)

Have you ever done a relay race? Did you camp, or drive vans from leg to leg?

Summer Eye Protection with Shady Rays

I received a pair of Shady Rays X Series shades as part of being a BibRave Pro. (ambassador) Check out BibRave.com to find and write race reviews.

I know that in parts of the world it is still snowing (what the heck!?!), and when we lived in Jersey there was always that part of July that felt like living on the surface of the sun. Here in SC, in May, it is already super hot and sunny. Temps have hit the 90s for days, with no end in sight yet!
Over this past weekend, I legit thought I might melt on more than one occasion.
Did you know that blue eyes are more sensitive to the sun? True story. Light colored eyes have less pigment in the iris, which means less protection from the sun! This also means that we need to wear shades to walk out to the mail box!

Shortly after I got my new shades, I got my pupils dilated. What takes a dark eyed person just a few hours to recover from, takes me 10 hours. 10. For real. After that, my eyes were still sore! Craziness! My son asked me to go Pokémon hunting with him that afternoon, and thanks to my Shady Rays, I could say yes!

A friend asked me if they fogged up while I ran, a frequent problem here in the South, and the answer is no! I even wore them at the beach, and there was no fogging up, no sliding off of my sweaty nose.

I couldn't resist sharing this pic. I brought my Shady Rays out on a Mother's Day hike, and as soon as we got there, a misty rain started to fall and they never left my hat! Cute pic, though.

I am definitely a huge fan! The frame is so durable, they make it for sporty peeps like me, who are always on the go. The polarized lenses are 100% UV protected, shatter proof, and salt water proof, so if you are a water geek, these are the shades for you! Shady Rays stands behind their shades, too! If you manage to break your shades, they will replace them, you just pay shipping and handling!

Every order provides 10 meals to fight hunger right here in the US, through Feeding America.

Not convinced yet? Use the discount code RAVE50 for 50% off two or more items. Come on, you know you want a pair of these! Check out their whole line here. If the X Series shades aren't your style (although I cannot imagine why!) they have so many others to choose from!

Don't leave me hanging! Which ones are you getting?

Marathon Training on Vacation

Marathon training is an all encompassing undertaking, and traveling doesn’t make it any better! This past week, I’ve been visiting my daughter in NJ for her bridal shower and college graduation. During that time, I had to squeeze in three runs. Her neighborhood isn’t really conducive to running, so I traveled to Asbury Park, NJ for the two runs I’ve done so far. The third will happen in Virginia on Wednesday morning, I think.
Luckily for me, I drove here, so I was able to bring all of my random gear with me, instead of picking and choosing. If that’s not the case, I usually bring the most important gear. Also lucky for me, my long run was only six miles.
The course I chose was a mixed bag surfaces, and there were two different charity walks today so my long run was a little wonky. My feet hurt from the surfaces and my hips ache from all the bobbing and weaving. Totally worth it, though. Check out my pics!
