Spring "Break"

Because of Sandy, we lost most of our Spring Break. We did have Good Friday off, and will have Monday off as well.  Luckily, the weather has been amazing and the fam and I are taking advantage of that!
Friday was the day that the teenie and the Boy were getting iPhones. We all rode our bikes the 1.5ish miles to the store to get them. Perfect weather!!!! After we returned, the hubs and I went for a quick run, about 1.75 miles.
See? Perfect!!
When the teenie needed heavy cream to make Creme Brulee, we even walked to 7-11 to get it for her. It turned out yummy!

The only down side to Friday was that Richard Griffiths, who played Uncle Vernon in the harry Potter movies passed away. In honor of his passing, I will not be Instagram-ing on Sunday. Why? Because "There's no Post on Sundays".
Check out #NoPostOnSundaysRichard on Instagram, there are over 1800 people posting about it already!

Saturday also turned out to be a beautiful day, almost hitting 60*! After stopping to see a friend, who had a surprise for me....
What an amazing birthday gift! LOVE my girls at Plethora Boutique!! After dropping the teenie off at a babysitting job, I headed out to spend my Birthday Gift Cards! I had 2 cards to 2 different running stores and I got 2 tees, 2 tanks, and capris! GREAT day!

Of course, with all this new gear, I HAD to run right out and, well, RUN! I headed out to the Brick Reservoir to run today for a few reasons:

  1. Crazy traffic at the shore makes it unsafe to run on the roads
  2. the reservoir is a 1.6+ mile loop, even pavement, and almost no hills
  3. It is beautiful there
  4. they have water stations!!!!!

I was 15 seconds away from a PR! It was a little windy, so half of every loop was a little nuts, but then half of every loop was easier to run. The easy half was HOT though! I was glad I wore my shiny new green shirt with cap sleeves! I am so glad that I went! I was going to skip my run, being that I woke up with a headache and ::::boys shield your eyes:::: cramps. They were vicious!

On my way back, I stopped at the Ergophobia Warehouse by my house. They don't sell out of it, usually, but they took advantage of the weekend, and put out their Restore the Shore merchandise! I scored 2 new tees and some stickers for me and the Boy. Here is mine:

If you have ever been to Asbury Park, NJ you should totally get the lettering! Iconic!

WOW, a crazy day and it is only 3:45! When the hubs comes home from dirt biking, I am hoping for a nice walk and dinner from somewhere. Perfect end to a perfect day!

On my run, I did some thinking, which i always do when I run, about making a calendar for April to get in some quick workout while I catch up on my shows! I will post it when it is done!
I also hope to do a giveaway soon, in honor of my 200th post, which is approaching!

What have you done outdoors this weekend?

Sugar n Spice Vox Box from Influenster

I was so excited to receive my second Vox Box in the mail last week! It is always such a fun treat to open the box and find out what is inside! Influenster provided me with the box, and now I get to test all the goodies out and report back and let them (and you) know how I liked them!

So cool, right?
I have yet to try *every* product, but let me give you the play by play from what I have tried so far!
I will start with Dickinson's Witch Hazel Oil Control Towelettes! The teenie stole these right away and she is loving them! Dickenson's included coupons as well. The first 4 peeps to ask can have one, worth $2 off! You can follow Dickinson's on Twitter via hashtag here!
Blogger fail! sorry it is upside down!

Next, is the Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer Total Moisture. You spray it on, rub it in, and you are ready to go! I couldn't wait to try this! It works really well! There is no wetness once you rub it in. You can get dressed right away! LOVE it! Check them out on Twitter and using #SprayandGo

Next is nectresse from Splenda. I have yet to try this one, but I am excited about it. I am allergic to aspartame, and I use Splenda occasionally, so having one made from monk fruit is so cool! It even came with a booklet with some recipes in it! They have a hashtag on Twitter!

Next in my magical box of goodies is a trio of products from Colgate, one of my preferred brands of toothpaste! They sent full sized toothpaste, mouthwash, and brush from the Optic White Regimen! My current tube of toothpaste is almost gone, so I will be using these soon! Follow them on Twitter and using #BrilliantSmile

Last, but definitely not least, is the package of BelVita Biscuits! I LOVE these, especially during long runs and Half Marathons. They are dry, but not too dry, and they are light, so they don't stay in your stomach like a lump! I have very few things that I can eat before a race, so I am thrilled with these! My faves are apple or blueberry. The package that came in the box is Cinnamon Brown Sugar, and i will try them before my next big race! They are also on Twitter and you can find comments and praise at #BreakfastBiscuits

Are you an Influenster?

40th Birthday Surprise Party!

Next week is my 40th Birthday, and the hubs had been asking me where I wanted to spend the weekend as a present. I kept offering up ideas, but he wasn't really taking the bait! So frustrating!
BUT
There was a method to his madness!
My friend Pam asked me if I wanted to have a late girl's night dinner, and she was going to pick me up at 8:45. We invited my friend Grace as well. I was looking forward to it and feeling lazy all at the same time. I almost went out in sweats, but at the last minute I decided to shower and get dressed instead. After we all got picked up, Pam suggested Marlins, a bar/pizza joint in Point Pleasant Beach. We all talked about how excited we were to be getting out, and I may have possible complained that the hubs was not planning my weekend trip. Maybe.
When we got to Marlins, I noticed a table full of guys staring at us, and I told Pam they were creeping me out. I looked to the right, and noticed that a guy at one of those tables looked just like my brother. He lives over an hour away and my brain just didn't make the connection! I was about to tell the girls about it, when everyone over there yelled "Happy Birthday!"
Not the best pic, lol, but I wasn't expecting it! All of my favorite people were there! He invited all of my friends, and my most of my family, even my parents came! They live over 3 hours away, so we don't see each other as much as I would like! They slept over as well, which was even better!
It was a cocktail hour with finger foods and an open bar, so everyone had a great time :)
My little photographer Boy left early so there aren't many pictures! The cake came out at the end of the night, and it was another great surprise!
My friend Sylvia, who owns the bakery, snagged the pic from my Facebook page. Cool, right?
A great night was had by all, and when I returned home, I opened my gifts! Among them....
Two, yes two! Gift Certificates to two different running store! Woot! I see new race outfits in my future!
Two gift cards to restaurants
beautiful jewelry, including a Pandora bracelet meant to hold charms that remind me of races!
My mom also got me a charm of a running girl!
I love my friends and family, they are awesome! My hubs did a nice job with this party, I even forgive him for tricking me about that weekend away. Almost ;)

Has anyone ever thrown you a surprise party? Did you like being surprised?

Saturday Ramblings! Race Day, Yoga Bags, and the Interstate Challenge!

Today my daughter and I got up early-ish and headed a few towns north to run the Mama Mare De-FEET Breast Cancer 5K. It was super freezing cold, and we got there very early, so we spent a lot of time sitting in the car!

my bib, and Honor card

swag bag! Great cloth bath pack with a pen and....

We eventually headed inside, to use the bathroom, and then it was finally time to get started. The teenie told me at the last minute that she was sooooooo hungry, so I knew it was not going to go well lol. We ran most of the first mile, then stopped to walk most of it. We did a few runs, mostly walking. It was super cold, but the scenery was nice!

We finished in about 40 minutes, grabbed some drinks and food for the teenie, then headed to Perkins for pancakes.

In other news, I have started making yoga bags. I crochet a lot, and had made myself one awhile back. When a friend saw it at my Yoga Fundraiser, she promptly ordered two! I am so excited! I am planning on opening an Etsy shop soon, and will be selling them for $25. They are made of worsted weight yarn, and breathe really well because of the pattern. Great for your yoga mat!

I also recently found a great new challenge! Digital Running's Interstate Challenge! I found it just after I ran Disney, and after I ran E Murray Todd I qualified! Woot! I was also the very first person to qualify! Yay me!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up for the challenge.
  2. Run a marathon or a half marathon in two different states between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.
  3. Log your races here at digitalrunning.com.
  4. We’ll verify the results you’ve reported with the official race results.
  5. We’ll send your medal once we’ve verified that you’ve completed the challenge.

It’s that easy

Unfortunately, I did it so quick, that the medals are not ready yet, lol. But I am excited to get mine!

What do you carry your yoga mat in?

Shubeez also makes Custom Tags! If your company has a logo or a motto, the can probably make you a custom tag! What a great way to fundraise!

Recently, shubeez sent me an awesome goodie bag as a thank you for being an affiliate! They are awesome peeps over at shubeez!

Todd and Casey are awesome! Have I mentioned the word awesome yet today? I think maybe I have!
There was also gum in the bag, but the boy ran off with that, and I never saw it again. ::::sigh:::::

They were so generous, that I am feeling equally generous. Well, maybe 3/4 generous! They sent me 4 shubeez, and I am keeping one, lol. I am attaching it to my locklaces when I finally put them on my shoes! Which leaves one 13.1 and two 26.2 shubeez to give away!

Relay for Life

My daughter has formed a team for Relay for Life called No Day But Today (those of you who like musicals may recognize the name from RENT.)
She is doing the Relay in honor of someone from her Performing Arts High School who is a Lymphoma Survivor. We will call this person "J". J means a lot to her and is a Survivor of over 15 years! Woot!
We are hosting 2 different Fundraisers for her Relay Team right now!
The first is a Virtual Race, called, of course, No Day But Today! It is a 5K with a Half Marathon Option and the distance will be on the back of the medal! The race will take place any time during the month of May, and will cost $20. We will donate $15 to the American cancer Society and $5 will defray the cost of the medal, shipping, and the bonus surprise we hope to add for every racer. We will also be doing drawings. Check out the Facebook event page here! Here is a pic of the medal:
The green ribbon is for Lymphoma, and the musical notes represent the Discipline that her friend is known for.

The second Fundraiser is running for the next 9 days. Scentsy! Patty is generously donating 20% of the sales to Morgan's team! Thanks Patty! If you are looking for a great fundraiser, contact Patty! Here are a few great products that Scentsy carries:
They have a Campus Collection!

from the Silhouette Collection!

Plug-ins!

WOW! They have a lot of great items for sale! Please consider one of our great fundraisers, Cancer Research is so important! We need to find a cure!

What kind of Fundraisers do you like?

Rock n Roll USA

I went to bed early Friday night, so that I would be well rested for the race. My daughter woke up at midnight, talking in her sleep, someone called me at 2 a.m. (didn't recognize the number), and then every hour after that I was up checking the phone to be sure the alarm went off. Not a great start!

We were out the door at around 5:30 am. Our hotel, the George, had goodie bags out for us! We all got drawstring backpacks with the George printed on them. In the pocket was a banana, water bottle, and protein bar! Woot! We walked to the start, stopping on the way to get me a bagel that I couldn't eat. I was so nervous about the impending rain, that I was making myself nauseous!
I was meeting a fellow Moms Run This Town member at 6:30. She didn't get in until 10:30 Friday night, so I picked up her bib and shirt, and filled her bag with swag. I couldn't find the meeting place so I Facebooked her and we met up to make the drop. One of her friends googled the meet-up location, and we headed over to the Smithsonian Castle for a group pic.
After the group pic I headed over to my corral. I was still feeling a little nauseous, but I managed to eat half of a Honey Stinger Waffle, which settled my stomach a bit. They weren't roping off the corrals this time, so people were moving up from corrals behind me, so I started to move up as well. I was getting closer to the start, keeping it together, when I noticed a woman with a doo rag on, bald, in a  pink shirt. The shirt said "Three days ago was my last treatment, nothing is going to stop me now". I was running this race as a Komen Marathon for the Cure, and this really had me going on the tears!
I sucked it up though, and tried to keep it together for the race to start! Check out the view from the corrals!
Jon took a pic of me at the corrals, and then ran along and took some of me starting. I haven't taken the pics off of the camera yet tho! There were so many people, and the crowd never really thinned out!
It was finally our turn, and as we toed the line, I went to start my Runtastic app. Before they even started the countdown, I got my text from the Race saying that I started! Yikes! One extra minute added to my time lol
The scenery was amazing. We ran passed the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol Building. Just before the 5K mark we crossed the bridge to Arlington Cemetery and turned around at the entrance. I was excited to see that I was on track for a PR! Woot! No rain either, perfect so far!
The scenery after that was very pretty, lots of trees and flowers. Approaching mile 6, I was still on track for a PR. And then we hit the hill. That hill kicked my butt! I started to walk and looked up to see a sign that said "Make this hill your bitch!". So I started to run again. Other signs on this hill said "Don't quit, you're not the Pope", a bunch about the Sequester, and one that said "After this, it's all downhill. Literally." That sign lied.
There were many more hills.
We passed through Howard University's Living areas, and lots of college kids were handing out beer and mimosas, cheering us on, playing music.
More hills.
The spectators were amazing, always tons of people, some had beer, drinks, candy.
Mile 10 I noticed a runner up ahead juggling. Seriously, the guy never stopped! I was impressed and frustrated all at the same time! It took me a mile to pass him!
All the while, I was looking for the family. I expected to see them at mile 10ish, but never saw them! Turns out they got to mile 11 about 5 minutes too late! Here is the sign I *would have* seen!
As we approached the DC Armory at the Finish, I was so glad to be almost done! My ankles and calves ached something fierce! I couldn't wait to see the fam and get on the Metro back to the hotel!
Hmmmmm
There were tons of spectators at the finish, all cheering and yelling. I couldn't find my fan anywhere! I crossed the Finish Line, and headed towards the medals!
There was so much bottlenecking! My medal was handed to me wrapped in plastic! WTF??!? I had to unwrap it myself and put it over my head. YUCK!
Off to the food!
I grabbed a bottled water, a frozen carton of chocolate milk, a protein bar. Jamba Juice was there, but unless you ran very fast, it sucked to be you. No Jamba Juice for me. I grabbed a bagel, chips, but bypassed the apples because my hands were full. After you passed all the food and were juggling like a mad person, they gave you a tote bag from Safeway. Perhaps not the best laid plan, but it was useful! I opened my milk shake, lol, and started drinking. ahhhhh I am lactose intolerant, but the girl at the expo said your body craves it and you won't get sick. Darn, she was right. It tasted so gooooood!
Still too much bottlenecking, but I managed to finally check my phone, to see where my fam was. They were at the hotel. They didn't come. I was devastated. I still am. Absolutely devastated.
Even worse, I had no money for the Metro and had to walk 2 miles back to the hotel. OUCH. It took me that long to cool down enough to see them without freaking out. Did I mention I was devastated?

Final results:
time: 2:36:28
16,302/19,945 overall
1,357/1.818 age group
9,672/12,525 females

Not too shabby. 11 minutes slower than my best, but for my first planned Half of the season, I will take it! Hills and all!

This was race #3 out of 13 for my goal of 13in2013! Ten to go!

Has your family ever stood you up at the Finish Line?
