This morning, one of our local elementary schools had their inaugural 5k and fun run. They called it a 1st annual, but we won't go there, it's a huge pet peeve for me!
My day started with a 1.25 mile bike ride to the start, picked up my recyclable bib, and headed to the finish area to help host the Fun Run with some of my fellow coaches and kids from Girls on the Run.
Everyone who participated got a medal and a sticker. They all had so much fun, it was so cute!
After a 30 minute break, it was time to line up for the 5k. The course was through the neighborhood surrounding the school, very shady, and very well marked. At each half mile mark, whether planned or coincidence, was a family with their hose or sprinkler facing the street for us to run through. It was amazing, and very much needed. The water stops were at each mile mark and manned by Daisy Girl Scouts. The cuteness was overflowing.
The only complaint was the locals, and this was not the fault of the race directors. At least 5 drivers were out on the course, and not all of them were concerned about the runners. It was very rude, and very unnecessary.
I look forward to next year's event!
