RaceFest 10k

I’m not gonna lie, y’all, I thought that this race wasn’t happening! The forecast last night called for thunderstorms all morning and I was not optimistic. I had horrible race sleep last night and woke up to check my email for cancellation. Nope. The race was on.
I drove to the mall and scored my usual parking spot. Not too close to the exit but not too far, perfect for a short walk from the finish line, and an easy escape afterwards! This is my running club’s goal race so we all met up for a picture. This is a mixed bag of all three locations, and not everyone from each location was racing.

The race began on time, which is always nice. It had just started raining and I put on the poncho I brought. I get those disposable ones from Walmart that cost about a dollar. It was too hot and humid though and I decided that I prefer being wet! The rain has brought out the flowers and the scenery was great!

We ran a 1:1 and the only time we deviated was during the last mile. We were running downhill when my watch beeped and I decided to make use of the downhill and ran for two minutes instead. I had checked my best time from last year and I realized that I was headed for a course PR. I didn’t realize that I rarely run a 10k outside of Disney and I actually beat every best time for the last four years! Wow! Not bad for a 14 minute mile!
I even got a pic with Sir Purr and the they were serving turkey or ham wraps, which I brought home for lunch. I gave away my beer tickets and spectated until the storm got started up. My mamma didn’t raise no fool! I went right to my car when the lightening started. Luckily the race was over by then and everyone was able to finish!

Flat Mama Friday

Tomorrow is the RaceFest Half Marathon and 10k in Charlotte, the goal race for our running club each spring. After running three half marathons in March, I decided to stick with the 10k. They are predicting rain, and possibly storms, so at this point I’m just hoping that the race is held as planned!
I have my flat mama put out in my bathroom, my post race clothes are in my running backpack, and I’m about to finally figure out how to connect my AfterShokz to my new phone. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be!!

Are you racing this weekend?

Why I Cannot Wait to Run the Downtown Westfield 5k & Pizza Extravaganza

I received entry into the Downtown Westfield 5K and Pizza Extravaganza as part of being a BibRave Pro. (ambassador) Check out BibRave.com to find and write race reviews.

If you've been a reader fore more than a few years, you know that I'm originally a Jersey girl. We moved south 3 years ago. Way back once upon a time I ran the Downtown Westfield 5k and Pizza Extravaganza, and that experience is definitely contributing to my reasons for wanting a chance to run it again.

The course is hilly. When I was a Jersey girl, I trained on flat beach town roads. If you wanted a hill, you ran over a bridge. Seriously. This race slayed me. It was also hot, because duh! July. Now that I am a southern girl who trains on the Charlotte area hills, I'm curious to see how I feel about this race!

The town comes out in force for this race. So many local businesses set up at this event and there is much swag to be had!

The race is held on a Wednesday night! How fun is that?!?

The hubs is going to run it with me. And by with me, I mean we will drive there together. The man does not run at all, he uses the elliptical at the gym a few days a week, and routinely kicks my butt when I drag him to races. We will be in Jersey that week for my daughter's wedding and will stay a few extra days to run the race.

It's a pizza run! I am lactose intolerant so I avoid pizza, but the hubs adores it. Have you ever had southern pizza? Most of it is pretty gross. Seriously, it's probably the thing he misses most since we moved. Well, other than our daughter!

If you are from Jersey, I definitely recommend you join me! Use the code WESTFIELDBR19 and get registered for $32! I will be there in my BibRave gear!

2019 Goals Progress

It's that time of year again, where I look back on the goals I made back in December and see how I am progressing. I will be focusing on the goals I have met, which I color in as I meet them. I have added a few since December, which is what I do when I've met a goal and can expand on it.

Run in a new state
I ran in Kentucky just last weekend. Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon, which just about killed me.

Run my 65th half marathon
Did I mention Kentucky? Yeah, that's where it all went down. I wonder when my 70th will be??

Get 5 new yoga clients
I am actually on #9 right now! My next goal is 10!

Done! My next goal is 4000. Don't follow me yet? Follow me here!

Beat a 2:19:08 15k
totally did this in Charlotte in January. By about 2 minutes!

So that's about it for now! I am working on a few others, like CEUs and pull ups. I really need to start that yoga streak. I practice daily for a few days and then inevitably skip one!

What is one of your goals this year?
