Book Lover’s Con Houston, Day 2

Sarah and I woke up bright and early to start the second day of Book Lover’s Con. We were very excited to start the day, since our first event was Gears, Buns, and Books, where we would be making Steam Punk fascinators for the dinner later that night. Breakfast was cinnamon rolls, and they had tea and coffee.

Once inside, we chose a table with an author. I legit chose the author I had met the day before, and bonded over Stranger Things. It turned out to be a genius decision….
First we chose a hat. They had different colored ribbons around them. They also had tulle in a few different colors.

Next, we chose our decor. Jestina had bonus buttons that she brought just for her table. That is, until word got around! We had first dibs, though. I made sure to choose a clock, some gears, and a key.

Did I mention that there was swag at almost every event? When we entered the room, we each got a raffle ticket and Sarah won! What a fun way to start the day!

Our friend Cary gifted us these matching tees last week, so of course we wore them on the same day and posed for some pics. We got a lot of compliments on them and we disappointed everyone on Saturday when we didn’t match again.

After breakfast, we went to registration for our second  swag bag. We thought it was an error or something, but they handed us this. Oh happy day! Gimme all the books!

Next we attended the Book Bash. We were given a swag box to fill with nine books of our choice. This was Sarah’s second visit, since she got drawn for a bonus visit in the Lottery on Thursday. We could also take as much swag as we wanted. It was set up like a little store, and I was positively giddy, I’m not gonna lie.

Below is everything I received all morning

Next up was the Author Jamboree, but we thought we had plenty of time, so we went to lunch. Turns out, we totally missed it, but I don’t care. Why? Because we went to the Hobbit Cafe. No. Seriously. It’s been in Texas for 50 years, and the place is amazing. The decor is more about the books than the movies, but they do have some movie memorabilia as well. The food was amazing as well. It was definitely worth the Uber ride. Our hotel had a free shuttle for stops within 3 miles, but the Cafe was 3.5 miles. Insert eye roll here. Totally worth an Uber though, and I got an anniversary tee.

We arrived back at the hotel just in time for a Celebration of Poetry and Prose. We were given quotes and had to figure out which author wrote them, but the authors’ names weren’t listed, their pictures were. They drew winners from the cards that were all correct. We had them all correct but our luck didn’t last, and we didn’t win. All good, we still had so many more chances and so much swag already! Plus, we all got a swag bag on the way out!

Next up was Title Me This. We were given magnetic words from books (mine were very Julia Quinn, lots of words like Duke, Duchess, Rake, Highlander….) and then the hostess called out a popular trope. We had to use our words to make a book title, and the author at our table would judge our titles. Whoever won would get a raffle ticket. Then the author would move on and a new one would join us. I did well at times, and not so well at others. My words were useless when the tropes were supernatural for sure!

Sarah won a goodie bag!!

BLC shared one of my photos from the event in their Instagram story. They shared a lot of my photos all weekend, which made me so happy!

I didn’t win anything, but we did get to keep the magnets, and that was a win for me. My “library cart” is magnetic…..

The final event of the evening was the Wells & Verne Fantasy Faery Gathering, a sit down dinner and costume party. We didn’t dress up, but I did bring the book dress I scored in NOLA….

The food was insanely good, the decor was perfection, and I won the final raffle of the night, which was a mason jar a la Tinkerbell…..

They had another photo  booth with a green screen, so we ran right up and got a pic without waiting.

The centerpiece of the whole room, it was massive and it definitely set the scene for the whole event.

The salad was a work of art, and so delicious.

This was the centerpiece on another table.

My prize, made by one of the authors.

Dessert was sponge cake in a chocolate shell, with a sort of marshmallow icing. Sort of like deconstructed strawberry shortcake.

Our table, before we sat down.

Dinner was chicken in some type of sauce, I didn’t ask what kind, but it was delicious, on top of creamy grits.

More decor…

The book dress!

Whew! Another exhausting day, and we were both ready for bed after the event. We both read for a little while and then it was lights out!

Stay tuned for day 3, which was the final full day.
