Flat Mama Friday
It's a double header this weekend!
Noooo, I'm not running two races, it's even better than that!
On Saturday I am volunteering at the Stumpy Pond Trail Half Marathon in Fort Mill SC and on Sunday I will be running as Mother's Day 5k in Charlotte.
Should be a fun weekend!

Celebrating my Anniversary With Buff #LiveMoreNow

I'm sure you're already sick of hearing about how I am Facing My Fears in 2018! In addition to that, I made a promise to myself that I would go on some adventures every weekend, and that I would drag the hubs with me.
Sunday was our 23rd anniversary, and to celebrate I dragged that poor man to Crowder's Mountain for a hike. I did let him pick the route, and he chose the Pinnacle. It was a 2 hour hike, instead of the 3 hours we hiked our last time at Crowder's.
Buff provided me with some great products to help me #LiveMoreNow and the one I chose for this little adventure was the UV Insect Shield Buff. It was the perfect choice!
The fabric that they use blocks 95% of harmful rays...
The built in insect repellent lasts up to 70 washes! The material wicks away the moisture, which was super handy during our strenuous climb to the Pinnacle...
It repels so many types of insects, most importantly mosquitos and midges. I never saw any near my face, so I'm guessing that it worked! I wore mine as a cap, but you an wear a Buff 11 other ways! I am looking forward to trying some of the others!

Rock Hill SC Girls on the Run 5k
I cannot believe another season has come and gone, and we all met up for another 5k!
Our team of 11 girls (minus 1) met up at Fountain Park to run our end of season celebration race. They had a new system this year for the meet up locations so that the girls could use the whole park area to dance and stretch before the race.
Unfortunately for us, our meetup flag was in front of the potties, so when everyone started lining up to use the potty, we could hardly find each other.
Before long it was time to line up for the 5k. This is a fun run, so there is no timer. Just hundreds of girls and their running buddies having a great time on a Saturday morning.
Funny story, though. As we got to the half mile point, a train started rambling by...
And then it stopped. Right in front of us. Blocking the road.
Good thing it wasn't a timed event.
Other than that, the race went well. I was testing a new watch I got that I cannot talk about yet, so I learned a bit about it during the race. I met up with some of my girls and cheered them on. I even ran with one of them for about a mile.
I finished with a decent time considering the train and the stopping to run with one of my girls. It was hot and humid, but still a great morning!
We got a cute pink tee and a swag bag along with our bling...
It came with the usual stuff... lip balm, toothbrush, coozie....
I look forward to next year!

Flat Mama Friday
My favorite time of year is here again! The winter/spring session of Girls on the Run has come to an end and it's time for the 5k in Rock Hill, SC! This is my 4th season with the SC chapter and it never gets old!
My new Happy Girl skirt came just in time and I'll be testing some items that I can't tell you about until next week!
I will recap tomorrow, or possibly Sunday, but for now I leave you with my adorable Flat Mama....

Enjoying Spring in the South with Knockaround Sunglasses

Being a Jersey Girl and living in the South has been quite an adventure for the last 2 years! Once I got over the culture shock.... okay, I'm not really over the shock yet, to be honest.... but I'm truly embracing southern living.
Part of that is the whole seasons thing. In Jersey there is, more or less, 3 months to every season. Here in the South, however, that's not exactly the case. We kind of sort of have winter for about 2 months, and then it's pretty much SpringSummer, and then Fall for a few months.
I'm really loving it, but I no longer own an actual coat, I am down to a few favorite sweatshirts, and I have way more hats and sunglasses now.
No Southern girl is going to turn down a chance to try out free shades, that's for sure, so when Knockaround offered me a pair, I made sure to pick the cutest ones I could find.
Seriously cute, right?
I tried them out for the first time at a 10k. I know, I know, nothing new on race day, but it was a 10k and I was pacing my run walkers so I wasn't really worried.
Besides being seriously cute, they fit like a dream, they stay where you put them, and they keep that pesky SC sun out of my eyes. I feel like it's a win win situation!
I did bring them with me to Disney....
But there was rain in the forecast pretty much the whole week, so they never left my suitcase. So sad!
I've been using them on all of my morning runs... the ones that don't start and end in the dark....
This weekend will be the ultimate test, the hubs and I are going hiking on Crowder's Mountain and they will be put to the test again! I will be posting all day on Instagram, so if you like crazy beautiful scenery, be sure to check it out!

Marine Corps Marathon Training with Amphipod

It is almost time to start training for MCM. I have been building my base and tweaking my training plan. This isn't the only thing to worry about when you are training for a marathon. So many other things come into play.
What will I wear?
What will I use as nutrition? What music will I play on my playlist? What will I drink?
Where will I put it all?
Once these decisions are made, you have to test everything out. You don't want to find out at mile 10 that your hydration pack is rubbing you in all the wrong places.
My current hydration belt is 2 years old. I bought it during training for the NYC Marathon, and it served me well. It's starting to fall apart, though. Hundreds of miles of running will do that to you!
I knew that I wanted to upgrade to a vest, so when I was given the chance to test out the Amphipod I was so thrilled. Surely this was karma!
And so began the testing phase. I started out with shorter runs, so that if adjustments needed to be made, I wasn't wearing it for long before I could fix what needed fixing. It really only took one run to find the perfect length of the straps that clip across the front.
One more run and I knew which pocket to use for my phone, for easy access since we all know I love taking pics!
Then came the 10k test. I was running with my pace group and found that I could hold everyone's keys and not worry about poking a hole in my shorts pockets anymore.
Disney was the ultimate test. I wore my Amphipod to all 3 races. It carried my nutrition, my ID and emergency cash, the 2 water bottles are large enough that I didn't need refilling until mile 10, even in the crazy heat. Oh, and no chafing, no rubbing, no readjusting. It is so lightweight that you forget it's even there!
So let's talk about the features on this super comfy vest!
There are two 12 ounce bottles that fit securely in their pockets. The pockets cinch closed which is great for trail running. I just wrap the cord loop under each bottle so it doesn't annoy me.
The majority of the vest is mesh and very cooling! No extra sweat where the vest sits.
So.many.pockets. I haven't even used them all! I use the two in the front for my phone and my nutrition. My keys go in the pocket in the back, at the bottom. There is room for a bladder, and there is even a clip in the front for the tube. I don't have a bladder yet, but when my earbud cord annoyed me when I stored my phone in the front, I used the pocket behind the bladder bungees for my phone. Everybody wins.
The vest comes in 2 sizes to ensure a perfect fit!
